Distance: 13 km
This walk starts and ends at junction 72, Boekhorsterweg 18 Noordwijkerhout.
The junctions take you on a wonderful walk through Hollandse Duinen National Park. You will walk from the Oosterduinse lake to the sea and back via the dunes and the forest, hence the name 'Van Zoet naar Zout' (Fresh to Salt).
From Fresh tot Salt Water is a varied walk through the Dutch dunes. One moment you walk under shady trees, the next the landscape breaks open completely and you walk through open dune area. The area is home to pine marten, foxes and rabbits. But you can also spot roe deer and fallow deer. And birds, lots of birds. In the spring, you can hear the nightingale sing or see a stonechat sitting on a branch or post.
Hollands Duin is not only known for its beautiful dunes but also for the role the area played in history. There are quite a few bunkers dating from the Second World War. They are part of the Atlantikwall defence works.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes. The route takes you over paved and unpaved paths.
