Distance: 15 km
Blister heads and Lakenvelders - there are only a few thousand purebred animals left of these centuries-old Dutch cow breeds. Various Warmond farmers consciously choose for these endangered historical breeds and dedicate themselves to ensuring that they can still be seen in the meadows. Warmond is proud of this living heritage!
This cycle/hike route leads through the village and to 'Het Lage Land', the ancient polders on the other side of the Kagerplassen. The route starts at the VVV Warmond tourist office at the Gemeentehaven. You will find the old Dutch breeds in the meadows - for example in the meadow bird reserve in the Boterhuispolder and as 'upholstery' at the Oostergeest Estate. By means of interesting facts, you will learn more about the agricultural history of Warmond. And did you know that the Blaarkop had an important share in the prosperity of Leiden in the 17th century?
A ferry is included in the route. If the ferry does not run, the route is about 4 km longer.
