This route is 28.13 km
The area around Lisse and Noordwijkerhout is known for its many bulb fields. In spring you can enjoy the panorama of endless fields of flowers in all colours, but this route is also well worth doing the rest of the year.
From old beach bank to bulb fields
Lisse is the starting point of this route. From here you can walk in the direction of Sassenheim and then Noordwijkerhout. These three towns lie in the middle of the bulb-growing area and were created on old beach ridges. Noordwijkerhout is located on the youngest beach bank in this area. The sand of these beach barriers proved to be very suitable for bulb cultivation. From 1950, the area of bulb fields doubled in about twenty years, and this made the area flourish. Along the way, you can take a break at the Tulip Farm to learn about the world of the tulip, but you can also go there for a snack.
Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen
A little further on, you will walk along the edge of the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. This dune area between Zandvoort and Noordwijk is used to extract drinking water for the city of Amsterdam.
