Distance: 14 km
This walk starts and ends at junction 83, Satellietbaan 41 Hillegom
Walking through rural Hillegom means enjoying the peace and quiet and the views. The route starts in the Vosse- en Weerlanerpolder, a piece of peat meadow land with a surprising wealth of plants and birds! You can see no less than 230 species of plants here, including water trefoil, orchids, tall fritillary, cross-leaf cinquefoil and summer cress. There are also 93 species of birds, including the black-tailed godwit, redshank, snipe, yellow wagtail and several species of duck.
After leaving the polder, you walk outside Hillegom and enjoy the vast colourful bulb fields in the spring and summer flowers in the fields. And on the way, stop at one of the roadside stalls for a bunch of flowers fresh from the field.
The last part of the route runs via the Oude Beek through the centre of Hillegom past the Beatles monument (The Beatles first performed in Hillegom). They did so in the Treslong Hall complex in Hillegom. In Hillegom there is a beautiful monument in memory of this performance which every Beatles fan should have seen) back to the starting point of the route.
